In its fourteenth edition the Fellbach Triennial of 2019 forges an unprecedented bridge between contemporary art and the origins of art 40,000 years ago: some of the oldest art known to humanity was found close by, in the Swabian Jura - small sculptures from the Ice Age. Perhaps they were created where they were found, but they could also be relics of early migration. Economy and war, jewelry, folklore and nature, ecology, spirituality and virtual reality or information: the question is what role does art play for humankind and how do artists today derive them from the development of our multipolar world? The intimate relationship between humans and objects, viewers and artworks demands direct attention and is in turn dependent on proportions, scales and dimensions. The project shows more than 150 works by 60 artists from over 40 nations. These are complemented by objects of cultural history.
Text: Hannes Böhringer, Nicholas J. Conard, Brigitte Franzen, Stefan Weidner u.a.
